Public Employee Assignments
The Public Sector division of Local 49 includes employees from townships, cities, and counties and is represented by eleven different agents. The majority of Public Sector members are Public Works employees; however, Local 49 does represent some police and clerical employee units. The Public Works groups include employees that perform a wide range of tasks in the Engineering, Fleet Maintenance, Forestry, Parks, Sewer and Water, and Street Departments. A sample of some of the job duties these employees have include: maintaining public roadways through reconstruction and repair, performing snow and ice control operations, maintaining indoor and outdoor ice rinks, operation of water and wastewater facilities, repairing heavy and light equipment, identifying and correcting horticultural problems, and maintaining developed and undeveloped park land including maintenance and preparation of all types of athletic fields.
