Business Manager Glen Johnson selected as Secretary-Treasurer of North/Central States Conference
October 14, 2008 St. Anthony, MN – The International Union of Operating Engineers (I.U.O.E)/Local 49 announced today Business Manager Glen Johnson has been selected to serve as Secretary-Treasurer of the North/Central States Conference. The Board unanimously approved Johnson’s nomination during the annual meeting of the I.U.O.E’s North/Central States Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. “I’m honored and humbled to be asked to serve our members in this leadership position,” Johnson said. “I am committed to working hard for the members of Local 49 and for all the Operating Engineers across the Upper Midwest.” Johnson’s success at raising Local 49’s public profile, increasing its membership and protecting the pension fund helped lead to this prestigious selection. The appointment will not affect Johnson’s full-time duties and day-to-day responsibilities with Local 49. Johnson is the newest member to join the IOUE’s North/Central States Conference. He fills an opening created when officer Philip Schloop of Detroit, Michigan was promoted earlier in the day to President. Long-time Board member Gerald Ellis, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, who had served honorably for many years as the regions top executive, recently retired. John M. Hamilton of Livonia, Michigan will continue to serve as the Board’s Vice President. The North/Central States Conference includes tens of thousands of members and represents 19 states across the upper Midwest and America’s heartland.
