Local 49 helps build New Home for Disabled MN. National Guardsman

Woodbury,
Minnesota
–Members of the International Union of Operating Engineers/ Local 49 are helping
a national organization called Homes
for our Troops build a new adapted
home for Minnesota National Guardsman Sgt. Marcus Kuboy, who was badly wounded
in Iraq.
Local
49 members dug the foundation for Kuboy’s new home on Monday, June 16th. The
house will be located at 3539 Windmill Curve in Woodbury. Local 49 donated all
the labor, time and heavy equipment needed to begin the
job.
“We are
honored to have the opportunity to help Sgt. Kuboy,” said Gary Lindblad/Local
49. “Here’s a young man who paid a steep price for all of us in America. It’s
only right we repay him for his service and his
sacrifice.”
Kuboy
suffered serious injuries to his legs and back when a roadside bomb went off
underneath his humvee in Iraq. He’s had more than a half dozen surgeries since
returning home to Minnesota. He can only walk short distances and needs the
assistance of a wheelchair and walker.
Kuboy,
30, spent four months at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington and is now
getting more treatment at the VA Hospital in the Twin
Cities.
He is
scheduled to receive the keys to his new home in
September.
